The car was produced in July 1952 with the chassis number #0212A for the Bao Dai De (Bảo-đại đế) last Emperor of Vietnam. In 1953, the car was sold to Mexican Adolfo Velazquez. The chassis number was changed to #0171EL, previously belonging to the Ferrari 212 Inter Coupé "Carrera Panamericana" '1951, which was destroyed in an accident during the 1952 Carrera Panamericana race. The chassis was renumbered in order to avoid paying import duty on the vehicle.
