October 1964, Los Angeles Times Grand Prix.

Bruce McLaren wins the Riverside’s 200-mile qualifying race for the Los Angeles Times Grand Prix, the first victory of a spectacular career. Powered by a Traco-built, all-aluminum Olds F-85 V8, the prototype McLaren-Elva Mark I started on the pole for the next day’s main event and led two laps before retiring with breakage.
