First 5 prototypes were called just 110 (without EB letters), were designed by Marcello Gandini and were built on an aluminium chassis. They were numbered from A1 (A for aluminium chassis) to A5, in 1990 and 1991. The first one (A1) was dismantled after being used for testing, and the chassis was re-used for a styling study. The 4 aluminium cars left were re-numbered from GT001 to GT004. All of them have survived.
