С начала производства в начале 1966 года BMW 2000 можно было заказать с автоматической коробкой передач, что сделало эту модель третьим автомобилем в истории BMW (после купе 2000 CA и модели 1800), на которую фирма ZF поставляла трехступенчатую планетарную коробку передач с гидротрансформатором и рычагом селектора в центре автомобиля.
