Компания начала свою деятельность в Эссене (Essen) в 1909 году как "Kopp & Ludewig" и занималась постройкой кузовов для легковых автомобилей. В 1919 году название меняется на "Gebr. Ludewig GmbH".

С 1934 года начинается выпуск автобусов, а позднее и троллейбусов на шасси сторонних производителей.

В январе 2015 года компания была объявлена банкротом.
