В ноябре 1947 года базовую модель троллейбуса МТБ-82М сменил более совершенный по конструкции МТБ-82Д, который с июня 1951 года начал выпускать завод им. Урицкого в г. Энгельсе Саратовской области. Тушинский авиазавод № 82 выпускал МТБ-82Д с мая 1947 года по май 1950 года.
