Этот двигатель был спроектирован в 1964 году для гонок Indianapolis 500, а в 1965 Jim Clark выиграл гонку с этим движком.

По началу этот V8 двигатель выдавал 376 л.с. при 7200 об/мин и имел объём 255 куб. дюймов.

Позже объём уменьшили до 160 куб. дюймов, а мощность возросла до 825 л.с. при 9600 об/мин.
