Образцы второй серии 2Э2122, дальнейшее развитие Э2122. От первых образцов их отличал огромный передний воздухозаборник, новая конструкция днища и боковин, форточки в дверях, большие боковые зеркала от КамАЗа (позже упразднены). Весь 1979 год две машины серо-голубого цвета проходили доводочные испытания.
