New York's finest got the chance to preview their future interceptors when Ford unveiled the Police Interceptor Concept. Based on the 2003 Crown Victoria, the Interceptor Concept features crush-resistant bumpers with reinforced steel push bars, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a 300-horsepower V-8 engine. Moreover, the front end features a one-of-a-kind push/pursuit beam made from reinforced polymer, stainless steel, and cast aluminum that can be used for assisting stranded vehicles or forcing a fleeing suspect's vehicle into a spin. High-tech gadgetry includes innovative search mirrors with integrated front-facing halogen searchlights combined with the side view mirrors; an Edge light bar complete with flashing halogen and strobe lights; an Accident Data Recorder 2 (ADR2) system jointly developed by Ford Racing Technology, Delphi Automotive Systems, and the Championship Auto Racing Team (CART); NightEye night-vision technology, which can be set up to record and automatically display the view on a standard police laptop; and interceptor-to-interceptor (I2I) communication technology, which enables officers to communicate with each other without using a central dispatching infrastructure.
