New for 2012, and the result of extensive engineering development in Australia, IAL is able to supply a new concept for any manufacturer by providing a cab chassis that is immediately ready for the dealership to offer another pre-bodied option, that of a fully equipped concrete agitator.

Based on the Isuzu FVY 1400 Medium Auto 6 x 4 cab chassis, the Agitator model provides a comprehensive approach to the development of a cab/chassis specification (including PTO) that lends itself ideally to the concrete transit mixer vocation.

Mounted on a 4410mm wheelbase chassis and fitted with a 200-litre fuel tank, the standard equipment includes polished Alcoa aluminium wheels. The FVY 1400 Agitator cab chassis tips the scales at 6470 kg (with spare wheel, but no driver or fuel). The pilot vehicle shown here in this feature is fitted with a CESCO 6.5 m3 bowl can legally carry up to 5.91 cubic metres of concrete using mass management, more than most of its direct competitors.

With a maximum GVM of 24,000kg and a GCM rating of 36,000 kg, the FYY 1400 6×4 is powered by a 7.8 litre, six cylinder diesel engine that features a variable nozzle turbocharger, an air to air intercooler and a high pressure, direct injection common rail fuel system.

Known as the SITEC Series III 295, this engine is classed as an EEV (Environmentally-friendly Vehicle) and is Euro V-compliant. Maximum power of 221 kW is produced at 2,400 rpm and peak torque of 981 Nm is rated at 1,450 rpm. The engine uses cooled EGR with an exhaust Diesel Particulate Diffuser (DPD) to control emissions and does not require the addition of AdBlue/DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) to comply with the current exhaust emissions standards.

The choice of the Allison 3500 Series six-speed automatic transmission is excellent for those operating in urban areas and through the centre of our cities. With a direct 1:1 ratio for 4th gear, both 5th and 6th ratios are over-driven at 0.75:1 and 0.65:1 respectively, while 1st gear is a low 4.59:1 ratio. The Powauto power-take-off (PTO) is fitted to the top opening on the transmission and is constant mesh with continuous engagement. It’s rated at 900Nm and operating at an output speed that is 98.4 percent of the engine. The driveline includes Dana drive shafts, Hendrickson HAS airbag suspension, and front and tandem rear Meritor axles rated at 6,600kg and 18,100kg respectively. The rear axle ratio is 6.43:1 and the braking system uses Meritor Q-Plus, dual circuit, full air operated S-cam drum brakes with automatic slack adjusters. The standard tyre fitment is Michelin 295/80R22.5 XZE2 on the steer axle and 11R22.5 Michelin XDE2 tyres on the drive axles.
