Industrial crane manufacturer Liebherr has developed a new reach stacker, the Liebherr LRS 645 LH in a “Log Handler” format, developed especially for operations in the timber handling sector.

Designed to optimise wood yard storage space and wood yard maintenance costs, The LRS LH is capable of handling logs for pulp and paper mills, chipboard or saw mills and wood terminals.

Liebherr Log Handlers have a maximum lifting capacity of 30 tonnes (at an outreach of up to 5.5 m).

A curve-shaped telescopic boom offers reach up to 10 metres and up to a height of 12 metres, with the possibility of handling logs from below ground level. The grab can be rotated through 360° as well as pivoting forwards, backwards and sideways.

The LRS 645 LH made its operational debut for Szepaniak, a wood handling specialist operating paper and saw mills in Finland. A further rental contract was signed with Zellstoff Stendal GmbH, the largest manufacturer of kraft pulp in Central Europe.

The new model will be presented to the public for the first time at the LIGNA world fair for the forestry and wood industries 2011 in Hannover.
