The Renault Dauphine had its premiere on 6 February 1956 at the Geneva Motor Show. The 3950-mm long car, with a 2270-millimetre wheelbase, had the engine in the rear and a luggage compartment with a capacity of about 200 litres in the front. The four-stroke water-cooled four-cylinder Ventoux engine with a triple-bearing crankshaft had a volume of 845 cubic centimetres (58 x 80 mm) and a horsepower of 32 hp (24 kW) at 4000 rpm.
