Replacing the 446D, Caterpillar’s 450E backhoe-loader boasts increased performance and operator comfort, superior controllability, emissions regulations compliance, easier maintenance, and new styling. The unit falls in the 17-foot dig-depth class and is the largest backhoe-loader in the line. It is powered by a 124-net-hp Cat C4.4 electronically controlled Tier 3 engine, which has 21 percent more horsepower and 10 percent more torque than its predecessor. New Cat axles and modified transmission increase top travel speed 25 percent to 25 mph. The new extendible stick features an external slider design, which Cat says yields best-in-class performance, digging forces, and versatility.
