JCB’s new 5.5 ton mini excavator is available in both reduced-tail-swing format as the 8055 RTS, or as a true zero-tail-swing machine as the 8055 ZTS. Both the RTS and ZTS models ben-efit from increased tracking speeds and standard auto kickdown track motors for ease of operation and higher-speed travel on the job site. Powered by a 46.5 hp diesel engine, the 8055 has a maximum travel speed of 3.4 mph At the rear of the machine, the 8055RTS has a 2.1-inch tail swing, which is considerably more compact than a conventional midi excavator. However the 8055ZTS derivative can rotate within the width of its tracks and presents no overhang. Despite this variation in design, the two machines share an identical digging envelope. The maximum digging depth is 12 feet, 4 inches, and the maximum reach at ground level is 19 feet, 10 inches.
