The vehicle was firstly named VBP Centaure – Véhicule Blindé Polyvalent (Multipurpose Armored Vehicle).

Then it was renamed to VIPG Centaure – Véhicule d'Intervention Polyvalent de la Gendarmerie (Multipurpose Gendarmerie Intervention Vehicle).

On the occasion of the Eurosatory trade show, which opened its doors on June 13 and runs until Friday, the Ministry of the Interior is presenting the new armoured vehicle of the National Gendarmerie. The Soframe ARIVE (ARmoured Infantry VEhicle), renamed “Centaure” by our law enforcement agencies, will gradually replace the very old VBRG (Véhicule Blindé à Roues de la Gendarmerie), namely the Berliet VBX 170.
