The Alexander Dennis Enviro400CBG is the compressed bio/natural gas powered version of the Enviro400. Following approximately two years of development with Scania, the Enviro400CBG was officially launched the at the 2016 Euro Bus Expo. Reading Buses was the first to order this model, taking five units.

The Enviro400CBG is built on the Scania N280UD4x2 chassis and powered by a 9-litre, Euro 6 gas engine mounted transversely at the rear. Unlike a diesel engine, it does not require selective catalytic reduction to lower emissions. Natural gas burns much cleaner than diesel. Because of the limited space available to integrate the fuel tanks, the chassis uses tanks with higher pressure and a reduced size. Three tanks are located under the stairs and four are located above the engine in the upper deck.

The bus uses the Euro 6 Enviro400 MMC body that was introduced in 2014. It features the updated look, new heating and ventilation system, new glazing system, decreased weight, and increased seating capacity. Under a Major Model Change project, Alexander Dennis worked with over 70 operators in a three-year period to improve the design of the Enviro400.
