Van Hool CX45E North America '12.2020–25

The CX45E is a fully electric-powered coach for the North American market. Proterra was selected by Van Hool to supply the E2 battery technology. The 100% electrically driven vehicle has a range of up to 310 miles, depending on the climate conditions and the route’s topography. The CX45E will mainly be used for commuting by groups of employees and/or regular passenger transport. The CX45E was designed, developed, and prototyped at the parent company in Koningshooikt, Belgium. The production-ready versions of the ten CX45E coaches planned for the first half of 2021 will also come from the Belgian factory. The vehicles will be driven from Koningshooikt to Zeebrugge for shipment to the U.S.

The CX45E is a fully electrically-powered coach for the US market. Van Hool selected Proterra, the leading American producer of battery technology for heavy vehicles, to supply the E2 battery technology. The 100% electrically powered vehicle will have a total battery capacity of 648Kwh and a working radius of approximately 300 km.

Van Hool will be presenting no less than 18 vehicles at BUSWORLD EUROPE: of those, 7 coaches and 1 bus will be on the showfloor and 10 coaches will be used for test drives. This will give professional visitors the chance to see the quality of Van Hool’s extensive range. Van Hool will seize this event to introduce technological innovations on a few of its vehicles. These innovations will be unveiled for the first time at Busworld Europe 2019.

Attendees at Busworld Europe 2019 enjoyed a first look at the brand new ALL Electric Van Hool CX45E in October. Along with an impressive lineup of fuel cell, low-floor trambus and diesel-powered vehicles designed for the European market, the first-ever ALL Electric Van Hool CX45E was introduced, with the elite distinction as the only model exclusively designed and built for the North American market. The zero-emission vehicle utilizes Proterra’s battery system which features a compact, robust design enabling industry-leading energy density, by volume and mass. Efficient energy storage enables improved range capabilities and thermally controlled batteries keep the temperature consistent to maximize lifetime in operating climates.

The new 56-passenger Van Hool CX45 features many passenger amenities including comfortable passenger seats with USB and 110V outlets, REI Elite HDMI System with six 15.6” monitors, and woodgrain flooring throughout. The new CX45 will be rotated in service to support National’s diverse charter bookings for tour groups, corporate outings, school trips and athletics, nights on the town and more.

‘Designed for the future, coming to America – January 2020’ – was the theme used to literally unveil the new bus, and ABC Companies is eager to present this innovative zero-emission model during UMA Expo 2020 in Nashville, TN. Like the diesel-powered Van Hool CX45, the CX45E Electric bus will integrate a multitude of onboard technologies and passenger and driver amenities including a fully redesigned driver’s area.
