The LTM 1650-8.1 is designed to deliver maximum performance. The new Liebherr mobile crane has large shoes to fill as it is the successor to the best-selling large crane of all time – almost 600 units of the LTM 1500-8.1 have been delivered to date. The successful concept of the two telescopic boom versions is continued – the LTM 1650-8.1 is available with 177 ft. and 263 ft. (54 and 80 m) telescopic booms.

In designing the new 8-axle crane, Liebherr focused on maximum load capacities. The LTM 1650-8.1 travels with an axle load of 26,400 lbs. (12 t) complete with its 177 ft. (54 m) telescopic boom and the front supports. To minimize set-up time, however, the rear supports are installed as complete support box in a single hoist and connected using quick-release couplings.

Swiss crane and heavy haulage contractor Friderici Spécial SA Transports ordered an LTM 1650‑8.1 at the Bauma. Liebherr unveiled its new 8-axle mobile crane at the trade show in Munich for the first time. The eight-axle crane is designed to deliver maximum performance. It continues the successful concept of its predecessor, the LTM 1500‑8.1, featuring two telescopic boom versions – the LTM 1650-8.1 will be available with 54 and 80-metre telescopic booms.

На выставке Bauma 2019 года компания Liebherr под лозунгом «максимальная грузоподъёмность на восьми осях» представила преемника модели LTM 1500-8.1. В 2020 году первый мобильный кран LTM 1650-8.1 с чёрно-красной покраской покинул завод Liebherr в городе Эхинген, Германия. Рабочий прототип крана был изготовлен по заказу нидерландской компании Mammoet, специализирующейся на тяжёлых грузовых операциях. По завершении испытаний прототипа начнётся серийное производство модели.

Новый кран унаследовал преимущества LTM 1500-8.1: он совместим с двумя телескопическими стрелами: 54 м и 80 м. Грузоподъёмность крана в зависимости от оснащения на 15 – 50% больше, чем у модели-предшественника.
