Первым специально построенным автомобилем GTP, участвовавшим в мероприятии IMSA, был переделанный Chevron B-19 Дель Руссо Тейлора с двигателем Alfa Romeo, который впервые прибыл в Дайтону в январе 1981 года. Он тренировался, но не участвовал в гонке.
