В 1955-56 годах в Горьковском Политехническом Институте была создана новая версия машины для обустройства ледовых аэродромов - ЛФМ-ГПИ-29. В ходе производства она была модифицирована до ЛФМ-ГПИ-29М, которую дополнили устройством для бурения льда.
